What is the sepsis prognosis for a post-breast cancer patient?
My mom has developed a blood infection, or sepsis. The doctor says it has something to do with her breast reconstruction surgery she had done a few months ago. She is a post-breast cancer patient. She finished chemotherapy and radiation back in early 2010. However, she has always been a bit immuno-suppressed because of all the stress in her life. She gets a severe bout of pneumonia every few years that sends her to the hospital. She hasn't felt well for a while. Her surgical site is red and swollen. She developed a 103 temperature late last night, and my step-father took her to the emergency room late this evening when she wasn't feeling any better and her temperature was still high. He texted me back that the doctor says she has a blood infection and they're putting her on antibiotics. He told me not to worry and that she'll be okay, but I'm still extremely stressed out about this. What do you think her prognosis could be? She wasn't in shock. She walked herself out to the car when my dad took her to the emergency room. Does she have a chance to make a full recovery?
